Tense

Definition:- In grammar, tense is a category that expresses time reference with reference to the moment of speaking.

Types of Tense:
These are three types
  • Present
  • Past
  • Future 


Present Indefinite Tense

Affirmative sentences 
Formula- Sub+verb+s/es+object

Note:- If the subject is He, She, It or any name, then we added s/es with verb of sentence. If the subject is not having above Pronoun, then we do not add s/es with verb of sentence. 
 
Examples:
  • I write a letter.
  • We go to school. 
  • You read newspaper. 
  • They go to market. 
  • He/she goes to office. 
  • Cows eat grass.

Negative sentences 
Formula :- Sub +do not /does not +1st form of verb+object

Note :- Write do not for plural and does not for Singular.
 
Examples :
  • I do not tell a lie.
  • We do not play outside.
  • You do not know to me.
  • He does not speak the truth.
  • Rajan does not swim.

Interrogative sentences
Formula :- Do/does +sub +first from of verb +objects

Example :-
  • Do you read English? 
  • Does she go to school daily? 
  • Do they do their work themselves? 
  • Does Reema sing a song?
  • Do Ritika and shivam quarrel?
Interrogative Negative Sentences 
Formula:- Do/Does +sub + not + object
Example :-
  • Do I not know English? or Don't I know English?
  • Does the moon not give light?
  • Do dogs not bark at night? 
  • Does milk not make our body strong?
  • Do children not like sweets?

Present Continious Tense

Affirmative sentences
Formula :- Sub + is /are /am +ing form of verb +object
Example :-
  • I am walking in the field. 
  • Abhay is buying a car tomorrow. 
  • Khushi is laughing loudly. 
  • Deepak and Rahul are coming tomorrow. 
  • Our cows are eating grass. 

Negative sentences 
Formula :- Sub +is /are /am +not +ing form of verb +object 
Example :- 
  • I am not writing a story. 
  • We are not going to Japan next year. 
  • His brother is not reading a news paper. 
  • It is not raining. 
  • The computer is not working well. 
  • I am not going there tomorrow.

Interrogative sentence 
Formula :- Am /is /are +sub. +ing form of verb +object 
Example :- 
  • Am I telling a lie? 
  • Is it raining? 
  • Are you helping him? 
  • Is your teacher teaching you? 
  • Are you going to Delhi next week? 

Interrogative negative  
Formula :- Am /is /are +sub. +not +ing form of verb +object 
Example :-
  • Am I not speaking the truth? 
  • Is he not going to Shimla tomorrow? 
  • Are you not doing anything? 
  • Is the servant not feeding the cows? 
  • Are they not quarreling among themselves? 

Present Perfect Tense 
Affirmative sentences 
Formula :- Sub +have /has +3rd form of the verb +object 
Example :- 
  • I have drunk milk.
  • We have sung a song.
  • You have written a letter.
